For us snow and yoga enthusiasts, the concept of a ski/snowboard and yoga holiday/retreat sounds just wonderful. Thankfully, in recent years there has been an upward trend of companies offering such holidays. They’re cropping up all over the place, no doubt having noticed the demand for more activity-based holidays and the increasing trend of consumers paying more attention to their health and wellness. Yoga and skiing complement each other perfectly (see my recent blog post on ‘The Importance of Yoga for Skiers’). As such, I decided to do a little research on what sort of offerings are out there and what is available to us snowgis. Apart from the obvious (they offer skiing and yoga), they all have slightly different offerings and there is definitely something for everyone.
For The Adventure Seeker
If you’re after something a little more adventurous, then consider LUEX’s (short for ‘Line Up Explorers’) specialist trips for snow and yoga enthusiasts. The company looks great and I had a lot of fun on their website admittedly getting very distracted! As well as offering ski holidays to Europe and Canada (with yoga on request), they offer heli- and snowcat-ski holidays in Alaska… SOLD! As well as skiing amongst a pretty special backdrop, you can also have your share of yoga on request. So although it is not a daily standard, you can request it should you want it.
Their prices start at CAD 221 pp/night for their Chamonix holidays, and start from CAD 1,570 pp/night for their Alaskan holidays.
For The Vegetarians
For those of you that are not big into meat, then Austrian company OndaRoot offers a week long ski and yoga retreat in the Kitzbühel Alps. They serve organic food from their own farm, offer a vegetarian breakfast buffet every morning and a four course vegetarian organic meal in the evening. In the price you get 45 minutes of yoga every morning and 90 minutes every evening to wind down post-skiing. The website also includes information about their yoga teachers, Leila and Cri, so you can learn about their stories and teaching styles before you book on or go on the retreat – a nice little touch as each yoga teacher has their own style.
Prices start from EUR 799 per person for 7 nights.
For The Busy Bee
UK company Ride on Retreats offers a ski, snowboard and yoga retreat in Morillon in France over a long weekend – perfect for those of us who cannot take an entire week out of our lives – in a gorgeous chalet located just 200m away from the gondola connecting you to the whole of Grand Massif ski area. The price includes airport transfers, chalet accommodation, a daily breakfast, afternoon tea (for people like me who are always hungry), three course dinners with beer and wine and two daily yoga sessions.
Prices start from £498 per person for three nights.
For Those Needing A Little More Mindfulness In Their Lives
Soulshine Retreats offers a week-long ski and yoga holiday in the Tarentaise Valley in the French Alps in a chalet equipped with a sauna and hot tub. Every evening, yoga practice consists of a 75 minute yin yoga and meditation practice, as well as a meal with a selection of wines. Your price also includes a free 30 minute massage, morning juices, 60 minute morning yoga sessions daily and transfers to and from the airport.
They also have this handy little page of yoga videos tailored specifically for skiers and snowboarders… a great way to prepare for your ski holiday!
Prices start from £815 for a week (early bird price for 2016).
For The Luxury Spa-Lover
For those of you who are after a ski and yoga holiday in a spa… it can be done my friends. Thanks to UK company Destination Yoga and their sister company, Fitscape, you can enjoy a spot of skiing (or snowboarding), yoga AND swan around in a spa in I sauna, steam room, hot tub and swimming pool in the beautiful Dolomites in Italy. During your week you are treated to 7 nights’ accommodation in a family run hotel in San Cassiano, evening yoga classes, healthy breakfasts and dinner (although alcohol is not included). It is also worth noting that the hotel they put you up in was awarded ‘Best Hotel Spa in Europe’ by Conde Nast Traveller… just sayin’! So although you only get one yoga class a day, which may suit some people, you do get access to a luxury spa…!
Prices start from £2,090 for a week.
